Old Friends

·

Dear Chesnutt,

Old friend, it has been too long since we last corresponded, what is putting pen to paper between friends? I’ve heard you have come quite a way as a writer, I applaud you, Sir. It feels like just yesterday you were asking for my opinions on characters and lamenting on social policies with me. Do you remember my Open Letter CLub? Oh, how we wrote till our hands grew sore, we swore those Southern Leaders could hear our anguish through the paper. Ah! And when you wanted to be my secretary of all things, it looks like a blessing now that I couldn’t keep you on board. You’ve made a name and a place for yourself in the reform community and I am so very elated for you.

I also remember our bitter debates, how you wanted to change as soon as the letter was opened, but I knew it would be a slow process. How do you see the progression now?
