The Old Lumber

·

Moving to North Carolina was the best decision Annie and I made. The weather is perfect for the health of my wife. The land we bought was cheap. The soil is perfect for grapes, and the labor is cheap! I’m saving a lot of moving, which is great! The south is great! Everything is just like my cousin described, and probably better. And to think that I was thinking of possibly moving to France, Spain, or Southern California.

My wife is also liking the South. Recently, she wanted me to build her a Southern fashioned kitchen. I had to build, in the hopes that she feels better.

To save expense, I decided to tear down the old schoolhouse, and use the lumber, which was in a good state of preservation, in the construction of the new kitchen. Before demolishing the old house, however, I made an estimate of the amount of material contained in it, and found that I would have to buy several hundred feet of lumber additional, in order to build the new kitchen according to my wife’s plan.”

I tried to save as much money possible by using the lumber from the old schoolhouse, but my wife didn’t want me to use the old schoolhouse lumber after hearing Julius story. She now believes the lumber is hunted! It is absurd to believe in ghosts! Anyways, I ended up buying new lumber for my wife’s kitchen. I will be away from home soon, and I don’t want my wife’s condition to worsen because of old “haunted” lumber when she is by herself.
