I have woken up early this morning to check on the fields. Ever since I had to let Uncle Julius’ grandson go, I have been noticing a decline in the field care. I thought he was too lazy to do anything, but I do admit that he did help a bit. I am going to have to find someone else, but I do not regret letting him go. Uncle Julius begged me to keep him, but I had to draw a line. There is a difference in power between me and the workers and I want them to respect me and recognize my authority. Afterall, people like Julius are used to it and even prefer it. Like I’ve said before, they’re “mental habits of a lifetime” and Julius considers himself an “appurtenance.” Incidentally, my wife is beginning to feel better because of the air down here so everything seems to be going fine.
