Journal Entry for The Kitchen
The moment when Annie asks John to remake the kitchen is odd; I really wanted to give justify Annie’s decision and give her the opportunity to sort-of explain her reasoning for wanting a new kitchen.
It is obvious that Annie is detached from her new house, so I figured this kitchen would be her way of creating something of her own while her husband has his vineyards.
I did some digging, and read an article from Dr. Margaret D Bauer, who is a literature professor at East Carolina University and focuses her research on Southern literature, entitled, “On Flags and Fraternities: Lessons in History in Charles Chesnutt’s “Po’ Sandy”” and I was pretty fascination with her perspective on the remodeling and remaking of the kitchen.
Using that and Annie’s desire to feel included / wanted, I constructed this move.
