Leah’s Uncle Julius post “A song For Miss Annie” , is what inspired this move. I wanted to give another possible reason to why John is taking notes around Uncle Julius, and that reason is because John mistrust Uncle Julius. I also thought it was interesting that John, as the narrator, narrates Uncle Julius’ speech in AAVE, and is written in the way he speaks, but when Uncle Julius narrates his overseers or master, Uncle Julies narrates them in the way he speaks.
I also notices that John is basically dictating what Uncle Julius is saying, and I wonder if that has to with Chesnutt knowledge of stenography is being applied to his character John.
