Journal Entry for It Ain’t the Porch
The rationale behind this move stemmed from “John’s” post about the piazza. I wanted to address why John is picking up on the fact hat Julius seems uneasy while on the porch. While the space of the plantation itself is partially to blame, John himself is a big contributor to Julius’ unease. I wanted to highlight Julius’ past as a slave and the darker side that he wouldn’t address in the stories he tells Ms. Annie. I also wanted to show that part of the reason why Julius does not care too much for John is that he thinks he knows everything. Julius would much rather agree to avoid a conversation than dispute with someone who although he may claim otherwise, does not see him as an equal.
